Interview with a Gargoyle

Melodie McConnell’s night shift couldn’t get any more bizarre. First, a commotion behind the bakery lands her in the arms of a slimy demon. Then she’s swept into hiding by a demon hunter…and discovers she’s been swallowed whole by a world she never knew existed.

In the decade since he inherited a centuries-old family curse, darkness has ruled Blake DeWitt’s life. By day he’s encased in the form of a hideous stone gargoyle. By night, desperation drives him to search for the Witch’s Cabochon, a gem with the power to permanently lift the curse.

He’s seconds away from claiming it when the dying demon transfers it to a human woman whose beautiful body is no match for its wild, darkly sexual power. And whose innocent attempts at seduction he finds hard to resist.

As the demons swarm closer, they find safety in each other’s arms. Until Blake discovers the only key to his freedom…and must face a soul-rending choice.

Fourteen-year-old Blake Walker is the “weird kid” at school. As an adopted foster child, he has never forgotten what his birth mother put him through because of his psychic abilities. Because of that, he’s determined not to let anyone get close enough to him to discover what he can do.
But keeping his distance from Faith Carlisle isn’t easy. A new girl at school, Faith doesn’t seem to care what people say. She persists in trying to get to know him. When he gives in and becomes her friend, Blake discovers that Faith has abilities as well. And she’s not the only one; Eli Tyler, one of the popular jocks, is gifted, too.
With his surprising new friends, Blake discovers a threat: a dark presence occupying an abandoned house in town. Through a website he finds Topher James and Callie Monroe, two older teens who have fought this darkness before. With their guidance, Blake must defeat the dark entity before he and Faith are lost forever.

Heaven is for Heroes

Smart and athletic seventeen year-old Jordie Dunn has a bright future planned, but when tragedy turns her life upside down, she begins to question not only her future, but the facts surrounding her brother’s death in Iraq. The military’s account that his best friend and fellow Marine, Alex Cooper, is at fault, is a notion she refuses to believe. Alex was the careful one–the shy, protective, computer geek she’s had a crush on since the ninth grade, and she knows better than anyone that her troubled brother had a dark and reckless side—a secret she’s kept for far too long.
With no memory of the incident that killed his best friend, nineteen year-old Alex Cooper returns home, shattered and facing a difficult recovery. Determined to go it alone, he pushes Jordie away. No longer the freckle-faced tom-boy who followed him and Levi around as a kid, she has become a beautiful and stubborn young woman who believes in him far more than he deserves.
While Jordie’s unique approach to rehab pushes Alex to extremes, the two discover that their childhood friendship has grown into more. The attraction has Jordie’s head spinning and her heart soaring, but Alex struggles to deal with his guilt, his loss, and the nightmares that continue to haunt him. Even though Jordie is determined to help him heal, and even more determined to find the truth, what she doesn’t expect, is to find love.

Serendipity House

Sylvie was a pleaser. She did as her mother pleased, and she did as her fiancé pleased. Then she did as she pleased. Determined to take back her life, she heads to the hills instead of the altar on her wedding day. Coming across a quaint, country inn with an intriguing name, she impulsively checks in. Peopled with an odd assortment of characters, the inn has clearly seen better days; even the regulars have a bit of wear on them. When Alex arrives and is strangely comfortable vacationing among the geriatric set, Sylvie tries to ignore him.
But Alex will not be ignored, pushing her buttons until she admits, if only to herself, that she’s falling for him. Not until she’s hired to manage the inn does she learn he’s not the businessman he pretends to be, but a streetwise PI hired by her ex to find her. Adding insult to injury, he buys the inn and asks her to help restore it to its former glory, not an easy task with someone sabotaging their efforts.

Forced to work together, both learn about relationships, expectations, and acceptance—among family members as well as strangers who become like family.

  2. The books all sound great! Favorite holiday, hands down is Christmas, especially when little ones are around. They still find it magical and amazing. I miss that now that my kids are grown. Halloween is my next favorite. I have great memories of the hours spent compiling the perfect costume. Of course, we often went trick or treating in the snow….

    Great contest!

  8. Its a hard choice! I’m from England and we don’t do much with Halloween, so I LOVE to watch my son grow through the years of excitement: picking his costume, taking hours (weeks) to make or build it, only to change his mind the day before! I love walking the streets around our house when I’ve been relieved of the shelling-out duty, wine glass in hand (its a quiet neighbourhood and the red in the glass is fitting for the occasion) and long underwear catching at my witch’s nylon skirt. I like the clicking of my high heels bouncing off the brick houses, and my purple, fly-away wig strands that find their way onto my dark lipstick just as I’m about to chat with neighbours…

Yes, its a hard choice, but I think Halloween has it for me – its the first of the three and the biggest marker of the change of season. I love the family and community around the table for Thanksgiving (we also don’t have this celebration in England) and Christmas, and all the delicious smells. I love the dressing up of the house…

Why do we have to choose???

  10. My favorite holiday(s) start from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I can’t pick just one because I love them both! Even BlackFriday has become somewhat of the holiday for my family. I love Winter and hanging out with my family. Seems like time kinda slows down so we can all enjoy each other instead of the usual rush that life is.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite holiday is Halloween because the triple digit temperatures go away, plus it feed my imagination and I don’t have to cook. And did I mention the cheap candy?

  12. DH jokes that the holiday season in our house runs from 10/31 to 2/2 (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, my birthday and Valentine’s Day). This year, we’ll add our baby’s birthday to the lineup. :)

Christmas is my favorite holiday but it’s really the entire holiday season there that I love because it combines some of my favorite things: dressing up, shopping, eating, and getting presents. ;)

    Comment by Emily Ryan-Davis | October 3, 2011 | Reply

  13. Er…that above should be “to 2/15″ ;)

  14. While I really enjoy Thanksgiving and Halloween, a conversation yesterday reminded me of how much I truly love Christmas! My boyfriend suggested a trip that would take us away from home for the entire Christmas holiday, and all I could think about were all of the family traditions and celebrations that I would miss; opening stockings, reading our Christmas story, decorating the tree, painting ornaments, family dinners, and, of course, Christmas morning! It wasn’t the gifts or the food that I lamented, rather, the dependability of those moments to bring happiness to me and my entire family. It might sound too sentimental but its all these little things that make Christmas truly the best time of year for me!

  15. What a great prize! Both baskets are fantastic. :) Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because we spend it with just our nuclear family. Christmas has too much other stuff going on.

  17. Wow! Great books! Favorite holiday…hmm…I’d have to go with Christmas, even though I love Thanksgiving too. But what I love about Christmas is watching the excitement on my boys faces when they open their gifts and get surprised by something they wanted but didn’t think they’d get.

  19. I think that Christmas is my favorite holiday, and then comes Halloween. Love the look of the tree all decorated and the gaily wrapped presents under it. That only lasts until the grandchildren get here. LOL. Then of course Halloween, because you get to dress up and be anyone that you want to be. But alas and alac, it’s only for a month. hehe

  24. I’ve not read any of the books listed here. It looks like a great pair of baskets of books up for grabs.

Christmas is my favorite holiday…so much so that my husband refers to me as his little Christmas elf…though I am neither small nor do I look like an elf. :-)

I do however make most of my own Christmas gifts most years. I usually make several quilts for family members. Making my own gifts keeps Christmas alive and in the wings all year long.

  29. Although I love them all, Christmas would have to be my favorite. I love finding gifts for my nieces and nephews (although the older ones are hard to shop for and really it is easier to give cash). It also reminds me of my grandfather so much. He would always read the story of the first Christmas from the Bible each year. Even though I have it on video, it is not the same now that he is gone.
Great books! Hard to know which one to hope for!
